60 Years of Service

Only one member remains who, in 1954, was among the group of Catholic men who met to decide to set about establishing a Knights of Columbus council in Tottenham, Ontario.  Sacred Heart Council would become the only council between Toronto and Barrie at the time it was chartered.  Over the intervening years, it has become the mother to many newer councils in the region including those in Orangeville and Alliston.

On July 5th, 2014, Sacred Heart Council acknowledged the dedicated and unbroken service of Bart Keogh who has given 60 years of volunteering to the Knights in Tottenham.  Bart has served in a number of capacities, including as Treasurer and Trustee, and continues to be an active member.

In recognition of his 60 years of service, Bart was presented with a Knights of Columbus crucifix that was blessed by past Council Chaplin, Father Ray Jackson, CSB.  The presentation was made at the Knights Pasta Dinner at the Tottenham Community Centre before a number of fellow Knights and members of the local parish community.

In the weeks before Easter, the Knights of Columbus organized a food drive called '40 Cans For Lent'.  Parishioners at St Francis Xavier Church in Tottenham, St. James' Church in Colgan and St. Mary's Church in Achill generously contributed over 230 lbs of groceries that has been donated to the Our Town Food Bank in Tottenham.

"The Food Bank relies completely on donations and the congregations in our local Catholic churches have been terrific in their response", says Nigel Richards, Grand Knight of this Knights of Columbus Council.
